baby blue eyes…

I don’t want to jinx anything, but so far, Lincoln is a pretty amazing, easy going baby.  I know he is only 11 days old, but so far, so good…

He has been sleeping in even longer 3-4 hour stretches for the past few days.  It’s awesome 🙂  Even if those good long naps aren’t always occurring at night, they do always give me a chance to shower, eat, do laundry and, if possible, rest!

Husband and I took Lincoln back to the hospital today to wrap up some testing that needed to be done.. standard stuff… the little guy didn’t even cry too much when they pricked his heel.

He is beginning to spend more of his day in that wonderful state of awake and alert, but not crying and not eating.  I get to see his beautiful big blue eyes more often and it’s adorable.  I am officially in love…

big eyes

one week

Well, we have survived one week at home with baby Lincoln.  Hooray!

I took him back to the pediatrician last Friday and he had gained 1.5 ounces in a day, so there was no more concern about his weight.

He is doing really well… sleeping 2-3 hours at a time.. So, while I certainly am not getting a full night of sleep, as long as I get a few 2 hour chunks of rest, I feel pretty good.

rogue picture that husband took during one of my brief bits of sleep this morning…

Unfortunately, my in-laws had to head back to Illinois abruptly yesterday morning.  They were both so helpful, taking care of little things around the house, letting me get some rest when Lincoln was napping, running random errands for us, etc.  We miss them terribly, but hope they can come back and visit baby Lincoln again very soon.

Lincoln loves Nani & Popi

My Dad is planning to come out to visit sometime in June and I can’t wait for him to meet the little guy!

I’m hoping to figure out this Moby wrap that I got to carry Lincoln in… it’s basically a big piece of fabric that you wrap and twist around you so that you can carry baby close to you, but hands free.  If I can figure it out, I’m going to take little Lincoln for a walk around the neighborhood this week.  We have an appointment next Friday for his 2 week check up… Other than that, we will just be hanging out at home 🙂

sweet little boy…

first excursion

Baby Lincoln took his first trip outside of the house today… a trip to the pediatrician!

Most everything looks great… They were a little worried about his weight– specifically how much he’s lost since birth –which seems impossible to me… he’s still such a big guy!  But, either way, I am taking him back in tomorrow to do another weight check.  I’m sure he’ll be fine and plumping back up to his birth weight in no time.

baby boy all dressed up to go…

Today was also husband’s birthday!!

Happy Birthday Dad!

he’s here!

As many of you already know, Lincoln Gary La Crosse arrived Saturday May 19th at 9:45pm… and all of those predictions of a giant baby were VERY accurate… 10lb. 2oz., oh my!

I will put together a post with more details of labor/delivery soon… but I promise not too many TMI details 🙂

For now, just a few more pictures of baby Lincoln taken by a professional photographer who stopped by the hospital…

look at those big eyes…

…barely fitting into that little basket!

And some lovely flowers and balloons we’ve received…

thank you Aunt Sally & Uncle Craig!

… and thank you Nani & Popi!

this is it!

Well… despite my hopes and dreams of a completely natural unmedicated childbirth, it looks like this little boy is going to need some assistance to get going…

I saw my midwife on Tuesday and we talked through the best course of action.  I was prepared to have the induction talk.  My main goal at this point is to avoid a caesarean, unless an emergency comes up and it is absolutely necessary.  My midwife is totally on board with that, but she is semi-concerned about how big baby boy might be.  So, we decided to see if anything happened on its own this week and if not, set up an appointment for me to check in to the hospital tonight at 8pm to start the induction process.

Well this little baby is already taking after his father and being very stubborn, showing no signs of coming out on his own.  So, it looks like I am headed to the hospital in a few hours to start the process.

My midwife knows that I am still hoping to avoid as much medical intervention as possible, and so she is going to take things slowly with me.  We are starting with some Cervadil tonight once I get checked in and then go from there.  I’m hoping that after just the Cervadil or even if we have to start a very low dose of Pitocin, that my body will take over and I can labor ‘naturally’ and deliver this kid.

I have a lot of mixed emotions right now… I am SO excited to finally meet this baby boy.  I am a bit disappointed that I won’t be able to wait for labor to start on its own.  I am a little nervous about the fact that I am going to have a real live baby in the next 72 hours!  I am hopeful that the induction doesn’t snowball into a slew of medical procedures…  I am happy that the next time I am at home in my bed I might actually be able to sleep on my stomach 🙂

Ultimately, all that matters is that baby boy arrives safely and is healthy.  I can’t wait to share the news and pictures of the little guy!

Wish me luck!!

last weekend…

The husband and I had what will probably be our last weekend of just the two of us.  It was nice and low key….

Lazy morning with a sleepy kitty…

A very, very delicious breakfast at Madeleine’s downtown…

Lounging on the deck and catching up on some important reading…

Little dog enjoying the sunshine…

Giant onion rings at dinner…

Making sure those hospital bags are packed…

A very sweet Mother’s Day gift from husband…

And of course, watching this big belly grow…

Today is baby boy’s official due date… hopefully he will be making an appearance soon 🙂

quick update…

Had an appointment with my midwife yesterday afternoon.  Things are looking good (the usual– baby heartbeat, blood pressure, etc.)… but my midwife is eager to try and ‘encourage’ labor to get going soon (especially now that I am just days away from my due date)… She knows that I really want to try for an unmedicated/natural childbirth and the longer this little baby waits before coming out, the bigger he will be… and delivering a 12 pound baby just doesn’t sound like much fun….

So, I’m going back in tomorrow morning with hopes that I am a bit more dilated and she is able to do the ‘membrane sweep’ … I’m slightly nervous about the discomfort level of this procedure, but it really seems to be one of the least invasive (and non-drug related) ways to try and start labor.

We will see how it goes.  I am very excited that baby will be here so soon!!

In other baby news, have you seen all of the hubbub about this TIME Magazine article?

TIME Cover: Meet Dr. Sears, the Man Who Remade Motherhood | Healthland | TIME.com

I’m not totally sure how I feel about extended breastfeeding, but regardless, I am sad that the article seems to further perpetuate the silly competition that seems to go on between mothers… The headline, “Are you Mom enough?” just seems like it is egging on the notion that somehow doing one thing or another can make someone more of a mother… I don’t know… I mean, there are definitely some things I feel strongly about, but I just feel like it would be more productive if women could just stick together and support one another, rather than turning everything, even motherhood, into a contest.

Just my two cents.  Let’s stick together mamas 🙂

nursery update

So, the nursery is basically, finally done… I am still waiting for the glider to arrive- hopefully it will get here before this little one does… And I’ve been promised some amazing bunting that is being handcrafted by my lovely friend Victoria 🙂 so that will be up on the wall at some point… but other than that, the room is pretty much finished.  Here are a few pics…

room is ready for baby boy…

a closer look at those shelves…

hello mr. giraffe

… she whipped them all soundly and put them to bed… not the nicest nursery rhyme… luckily baby boy won’t be able to read for quite some time…

more alphabet art and an elephant hamper

ready and waiting for you baby boy!

I am now 9 days away from my EDD as they say (estimated due date)…  I can’t believe that he could literally arrive any day now.  Yikes!

In other family news, the husband and I are going to have a full house for the next few days!  My brother and sister-in-law and their two kids, as well as my mother and father-in-law are all staying with us for the weekend.  I’m really looking forward to having everyone together… Husband hasn’t seen his parents since January!  Hooray for a mini-family reunion 🙂

it’s May!

And that means this little baby that I’ve been lugging around for 9 months could arrive any day now.  Woo-hoo!

The husband and I had a lovely weekend, including a stop at the wonderful Riverfront Park in downtown Spokane.  We’ve apparently had a record amount of rain so far this spring and the Spokane River is insane!  Here’s a little video I took of the river…

The water is rushing by so fast and the river is so high that people up on the bridge were getting splashed!  Crazy town.

And here’s an updated baby bump picture… 38 weeks… I wonder how much longer I have to go?!

behind the giant pregnant lady, look at the lovely tree that has bloomed in our front yard...
