I’m three!

Lincoln had a big birthday a few weeks ago- three years old!
It’s hard to believe my “baby” is already 3.

I have clearly done a terrible job of sharing any recent photos/stories…
I blame pregnancy 🙂

But, here are some pictures from the last few months.
(And soon, I will have pictures to share of baby #2!)

Rhythm of our days…

Oh my… is it really the last week of January already?  I hope winter is going by as fast for all of you actually experiencing a “real” winter.

I realize I haven’t posted in ages.  I guess the whirlwind of the holidays and then recovering from the holidays left little time for blogging; but, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas.

With the new year here and Lincoln getting a bit older (he’ll be 3 in May, what?!?), I’ve been thinking a lot lately about rhythm in our home life. I think I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been quite interested in the Waldorf education philosophy, and creating a predictable rhythm is a big focus.  Simplicity Parenting also definitely touches on it.

I’m not talking about a set schedule per se- certainly anyone with a toddler can attest to the fact that maintaining tight schedules becomes quite difficult.  But, more of a gentle flow that helps a child know what to expect throughout the day (mealtimes, play time, bed time, etc.).

Currently, we have pretty good daily habits, but I’d like to work on creating more seasonal and yearly rhythm too.  This can be accomplished through focusing on seasonal changes and special holiday and festival celebrations.  Obviously, we all know the traditional holidays (Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Christmas, etc.), but delving into Waldorf, I’ve begun to discover all sorts of additional cultural festivals throughout the year- as well as ways to make those season changes (Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, etc.) more special.

I have grand plans to start incorporating these events into our year- we will see how that all pans out 😉 I will keep you posted.
First up is Valentine’s Day, so I am working on a few, small things we can do to make that day special at our home.

For now, I’ll leave you with a few family pictures we took just before the holidays.  The session was a lot of fun.  We were in the arts district in downtown LA and had an amazing photographer (Britney Moore Photography, for anyone local to LA… she was fantastic!)

Happy New Year everyone!

PS- Any tips on special things you do to celebrate throughout the year, please feel free to share 🙂

a San Diego weekend

A few weeks ago husband and I celebrated our six year wedding anniversary.
We were able to get away for a very quick weekend to San Diego, with Lincoln in tow.  Here are a few pictures from our trip…

two years old!

Well, my sweet baby boy is officially two years old.

We had a low key celebration at home on his birthday Monday, with a few presents, cupcakes and balloons.

Tomorrow we are heading to Oregon to celebrate with the rest of our family.  Here are just a few pictures from his special day.

Easter Hunt!

Last weekend, Lincoln went to his first two Easter egg hunts.
He called them “Easter Hunts” – no eggs mentioned… it was pretty adorable, and he had a great time.

… and a happy new year!

But first a little Christmas recap…

So, everyone chose to gather here in California for Christmas… I guess the sunshine, warm weather and sandy beaches won out over snowy, cold mountains this year…  I am once again so thankful that despite yet another relocation, we were able to spend Christmas together with Nani, Popi, my brother and sister-in-law and the kids (“Ca” and “Eee” as Lincoln calls them).

We had our big dinner on Christmas Eve, and Lincoln dressed accordingly for our oh so fancy evening…

Of course Lincoln chose to sleep in on Christmas morning… The poor guy has five teeth coming in simultaneously and has had quite a few rough nights lately, which often lead to late awakenings…

But as soon as he was up, the present opening began (his two cousins waited very patiently for him to get up- not an easy task for a 6 and 7 year old!)

reading up on our new city…

After presents, we hopped in the car and drove down to Malibu to play at the beach.  It took Lincoln awhile, but once he warmed up to playing in/near the ocean, I could hardly tear him away.

And now we begin a new year… {and a new look for the blog… I’m still tinkering with it…}
I imagine that by the end of this year, my little Lincoln will be a walking, talking, running, jumping little boy, without a trace of baby in sight… Lately he has just been picking up new words and left and right.  Although many of them are currently only decipherable by me (and sometimes husband), he is desperately trying to say everything.  It is quite amazing to witness.

I am also hoping to do some serious exploring in this new city we are calling home…  I’ve got the local parks down and we’ve seen a few sights (Santa Monica Pier and the promenade, the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Disneyland- although Lincoln only lasted a few hours before a nap was a serious necessity), but I know there is A LOT more to see.

Happy 2014!

a very happy Thanksgiving

We had family in town for Thanksgiving and boy, oh boy…
Lincoln loved playing with his two older cousins.

Every day, all day, he couldn’t have been happier wrestling, bouncing around, and generally rough housing with the boys.

one of their calmer moments together…

We made a Thanksgiving dinner {thank goodness for my mother-in-law & sister-in-law who handled nearly all of the cooking… while I wrangled my crazy toddler boy…}, visited the beach and the aquarium, and laughed a lot.
I can’t wait for everyone to be back in town for Christmas!

So, now that it is officially the Christmas season, I am feeling the holiday spirit!  Our tree is up, halls are being decked and Christmas carols are playing on the radio.

Today we went to The Grove and Lincoln was in awe of the giant Christmas tree…

now that's a big Christmas tree!

yard sale

I’ve been busy all week getting ready for a yard sale we are hosting this Saturday… exciting stuff, right?  Our whole neighborhood is having a yard sale, so I thought why not join in?  We got rid of a ton of stuff before we moved out here, but since arriving, I realize there are still things I do not really need.  So yard sale, here we come… I’ve never hosted one before, so wish me luck!

In the meantime, here are just a few more pictures from Lincoln’s birthday weekend when everyone was in town.
(I told you summer would mean more sporadic posts, right?  Sorry!)
(Oh and if somehow you want to see MORE pictures from his celebration… there are more pics on Flickr- http://flic.kr/s/aHsjFGV8N2)
