Happy Halloween!

Lincoln has requested to dress up as a buffalo for Halloween this year
(so random) and somehow I have pulled together a costume.
I promise to share some pictures of our creation next week.

Until then, here’s Lincoln checking out our jack o’lantern. He kept whispering to the pumpkin, “I wish you had a bed to sleep in, pumpkin.” My silly boy…

Happy Halloween!

Yes, we are still here!

Oh, hello there!  So, the blog was unintentionally on a 3 month hiatus.  Nothing big and crazy has been happening here… I guess I just fell out of the habit of posting.

I’ve continued to share pictures and snippets of our life on Instagram.  It’s just so easy to snap a quick photo, write a few sentences and post.  But, I’ve been wanting to get back to writing here, maybe sharing some recipes and goodies I’ve been cooking up in the kitchen and more on our adventures around Los Angeles.

Over the weekend we went to the pumpkin patch.  It was fun being back again.  The pumpkin patch was one of our first excursions when we arrived here last fall.

I didn’t take nearly as many pictures as I did last time, but here are a few.
(side note: I mentioned last year that there was a paparazzi pen at this pumpkin patch- apparently it’s where all the celebs go.  Today, I stumbled upon this article- Only in L.A. Sadly, we did not spot J.Lo, Jessica Alba or any other noteworthy celebrities during our visit- although to be honest, I was too busy chasing around a 2 year old to do much people watching 😉 )

Easter Hunt!

Last weekend, Lincoln went to his first two Easter egg hunts.
He called them “Easter Hunts” – no eggs mentioned… it was pretty adorable, and he had a great time.

… and a happy new year!

But first a little Christmas recap…

So, everyone chose to gather here in California for Christmas… I guess the sunshine, warm weather and sandy beaches won out over snowy, cold mountains this year…  I am once again so thankful that despite yet another relocation, we were able to spend Christmas together with Nani, Popi, my brother and sister-in-law and the kids (“Ca” and “Eee” as Lincoln calls them).

We had our big dinner on Christmas Eve, and Lincoln dressed accordingly for our oh so fancy evening…

Of course Lincoln chose to sleep in on Christmas morning… The poor guy has five teeth coming in simultaneously and has had quite a few rough nights lately, which often lead to late awakenings…

But as soon as he was up, the present opening began (his two cousins waited very patiently for him to get up- not an easy task for a 6 and 7 year old!)

reading up on our new city…

After presents, we hopped in the car and drove down to Malibu to play at the beach.  It took Lincoln awhile, but once he warmed up to playing in/near the ocean, I could hardly tear him away.

And now we begin a new year… {and a new look for the blog… I’m still tinkering with it…}
I imagine that by the end of this year, my little Lincoln will be a walking, talking, running, jumping little boy, without a trace of baby in sight… Lately he has just been picking up new words and left and right.  Although many of them are currently only decipherable by me (and sometimes husband), he is desperately trying to say everything.  It is quite amazing to witness.

I am also hoping to do some serious exploring in this new city we are calling home…  I’ve got the local parks down and we’ve seen a few sights (Santa Monica Pier and the promenade, the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Disneyland- although Lincoln only lasted a few hours before a nap was a serious necessity), but I know there is A LOT more to see.

Happy 2014!

a very happy Thanksgiving

We had family in town for Thanksgiving and boy, oh boy…
Lincoln loved playing with his two older cousins.

Every day, all day, he couldn’t have been happier wrestling, bouncing around, and generally rough housing with the boys.

We made a Thanksgiving dinner {thank goodness for my mother-in-law & sister-in-law who handled nearly all of the cooking… while I wrangled my crazy toddler boy…}, visited the beach and the aquarium, and laughed a lot.
I can’t wait for everyone to be back in town for Christmas!

So, now that it is officially the Christmas season, I am feeling the holiday spirit!  Our tree is up, halls are being decked and Christmas carols are playing on the radio.

Today we went to The Grove and Lincoln was in awe of the giant Christmas tree…

belated Halloween

I know Halloween was two weeks ago, but I thought it would still be fun to share some pictures from our trip to a local pumpkin patch.

(PS – This pumpkin patch had an area roped off for the paparazzi to linger about near the entrance.  We are definitely in LA…)

(Also, thank you for all of the comments and messages about Riley.  It’s been a long week and we are still figuring out how to move forward with his healthcare, but all of the kind words were greatly appreciated.)

Easter weekend

We had a lovely Easter weekend. It was so nice for Nani & Popi to visit and spend time with Lincoln. Every morning we came downstairs, he was just delighted to see someone waiting to say hello.

A few pictures from the weekend…

I was obsessed with this outfit... thanks again to my cousin Natalie for the adorable onesie!

valentine’s day

Hope everyone out there had a lovely Valentine’s Day!
Husband and I had a pretty low key evening… it was ‘Chili’s To Go‘ for dinner and a new episode of ‘Project Runway‘… and it was perfect 🙂

I am totally excited to make fun Valentine’s Day crafts, gifts and treats with Lincoln as he gets older.  There are so many fun ideas out there… I created a board on Pinterest filled with ideas for next year here!

In other news, apparently my seasonal depression disorder is rubbing off on husband; he has given up on shaving and has a pretty serious beard going on.  I’m not the biggest fan, but Lincoln seems to love it.

fun with Dad at the end of the day...

fun with Dad at the end of the day…

I know I mentioned before that Lincoln had started babbling “Ma ma ma ma…” and I didn’t think it was directed at me… Okay, well I totally think he is saying it to me now!  He doesn’t just randomly say “Mama” all day; he only says it when he is sad and wanting to be picked up by Mama.  It’s very sweet 🙂

Well, Lincoln and I are off to a play group that we’ve been going to for the last two weeks… I don’t necessarily like to try and fit into any sort of parenting style label, but this is a group for “attachment parenting” mamas.  There are a lot of aspects of “attachment parenting” that I was already doing before I even discovered the label (breast feeding, cosleeping, baby wearing, etc.), so it’s been good to meet some other moms doing the same things. (In case you are curious, here is some more info on the “attachment parenting” philosophy)

holiday recap

After a brief hiatus, I am back here on the blog 🙂

We had a great Christmas and New Year here in Spokane. Our house was filled with family and it was wonderful… My mother and father-in-law drove up from Bend and spent a week here with us. And, after some delay due to the stomach flu, sinus infections and some other unpleasant seasonal ailments, my brother and sister-in-law and their two boys also came up and stayed with us for a few days.

Highlights from the holidays include several delicious home cooked dinners (thank you Nani!), black light miniature golf, a hilarious game night, champagne on New Year’s Eve, a trip to Coeur d’Alene to see bald eagles, and (I’m sure the kids’ favorite) a game of laser tag.

I am so happy that 1800 miles away from the place we all called home for so long, we were still able to gather as a family and share the holiday together.

Now the house is quiet. Husband and I finished putting away all of the Christmas decor last night and things feel clean and fresh. I can’t wait to see what this new year brings.

And of course, here are a few pictures of Lincoln….

Merry Christmas!
