another day… another park…

After living here for about a year and a half, I feel like I know my way around Spokane pretty well.  However, I am still stumbling upon and discovering new parks with Lincoln.  There seem to be a lot of parks here, which is really great.

Here’s a little video I took of Lincoln last week…

(I promise he did not go head first down the slide after I stopped recording)

Happy weekend! And happy first day of summer!

yard sale

I’ve been busy all week getting ready for a yard sale we are hosting this Saturday… exciting stuff, right?  Our whole neighborhood is having a yard sale, so I thought why not join in?  We got rid of a ton of stuff before we moved out here, but since arriving, I realize there are still things I do not really need.  So yard sale, here we come… I’ve never hosted one before, so wish me luck!

In the meantime, here are just a few more pictures from Lincoln’s birthday weekend when everyone was in town.
(I told you summer would mean more sporadic posts, right?  Sorry!)
(Oh and if somehow you want to see MORE pictures from his celebration… there are more pics on Flickr- http://flic.kr/s/aHsjFGV8N2)

it’s Friday!

Woo-hoo!  A little round up of what’s going on out here…

* Lincoln’s 1st birthday is just around the corner.  Eeek!  So, I’ve been starting to think about his 1st birthday party.  It won’t be anything big, but Nani & Popi, my brother and sister-in-law and their kids are coming into town to celebrate, so I want to plan something.  I’m starting with some decorating ideas.  I’m sure Lincoln will appreciate all of the effort I am putting into choosing a color scheme 😉  I just ordered some bunting from this fun site Yellow Bird, Yellow Beard that I’m going to use.  And I have some awesome felt balls on the way that I am going to string and make into garland.  I am now on the hunt for a good, semi-healthy cake recipe.  I want Lincoln to have the classic “smash cake”, but I also don’t want to send him into a sugar induced coma on his 1st birthday.  I know you can sweeten baked goods with applesauce… If anyone has a good recipe, let me know!

* I mentioned before that I was going to learn more about essential oils.  Well, I went to two meetings led by a doTERRA rep and I just got my first kit with a bunch of oils.  I’ve already been using many of them.  There is a great blend called ‘”Breathe” that you can mix with a little coconut oil and use as an all-natural, psuedo-Vick’s Vapor Rub.  It’s been really helpful with Lincoln’s runny nose that he’s had for the last week or so.

* Remember when I said I planned on making weekly dinners.  Oh what a nice plan that was… Sadly, life (read: Lincoln) has made it a bit challenging to get much cooking done.  However, my lovely friend Victoria has been posting some delicious recipes over on her blog Frankfully.  Butternut squash bisque and veggie fajitas… yum, yum!

* In my continued quest to make friends here, I am going to a mommy & me meet up at an arboretum here in Spokane this weekend.  I’m excited.  Hopefully Lincoln has fun too.

And here are a few of my favorite, recent Lincoln pictures that I’ve shared on Instagram.  Have a great weekend!

first steps

Lincoln is still relying on crawling to get around most of the time, but he is definitely working on walking too.  I finally got a little video of him taking some steps…

In other news, spring is here!  Hooray!  The season change has brought some bizarre weather to Spokane, Washington… hail, thunder, rain, lots of wind… but at least we have daylight until 7pm everyday.  The first day of spring also coincides with the anniversary of the first date husband and I had… nine years ago!  So crazy.  Our 5 year wedding anniversary is coming up in June… after Lincoln’s first birthday in May… so many milestones this year!

I’m so happy the weekend is here.  Last weekend husband and I went out to breakfast (with Lincoln obviously) and I snapped this picture before we left.  It makes me laugh.  Happy Friday everyone!

don't they look so happy?

in a rut

Maybe it’s because January always feels like the longest month ever… Maybe it’s because it has been cloudy everyday for what feels like the last 500 days… Maybe it’s because I am just getting over a very unpleasant head cold… Maybe it’s because I am still sans any real friends out here…

Whatever it is, I have been feeling a bit blah lately…

But, I am forcing myself to get out of this funk… I did some searching and found two new mommy groups here in Spokane.  I’m feeling optimistic about the potential for finally making some mom friends.  I went to a ‘meet up’ today at some local kids’ gymnastics center and Lincoln had a fantastic time crawling all over the colorful, bouncy floor.

Also, I have to get outside and get some fresh air everyday, even if it is cloudy and grey and cold.  I know it’s good for Lincoln and (I’m sure) good for me.  I am committing to daily walks with baby boy… even if we are only outside for 10 minutes, I’m sure it’s better than nothing.

Two exciting developments in Lincoln world…
His two front teeth are almost in!  One of them is completely through the gums, and the other one finally started to pop through this morning.  Poor thing.  I cannot imagine how painful teething must be.

And, Lincoln started saying, “Mama” today!  Now, I’m not certain that he was actually directing it at me, but I was still pretty excited to hear him babble, “Ma, ma, ma, ma…” all day long.

Here’s to a happier week!

mommy and me time…

I haven’t really made any friends since we moved out to Spokane… Now that I have little Lincoln, I’m hoping that I’ll be able to meet some other moms and maybe make some friends that way.

I finally made it to the ‘Mommy and Me’ group at the hospital where I had Lincoln.  It was good to get out of the house and interact with some adults 🙂  There were also a lot of cute babies, including a set of triplets!  Hopefully I’ll make some mommy friends and Lincoln can have some infant buddies too!

Today Lincoln spent most of the class on my lap, watching some of the older babies who can sit on their own playing together.  He was pretty mesmerized… and apparently all of the exciting observations wore him out.  He stayed asleep in his car seat for about 20 minutes after we got home, which for Lincoln is unprecedented.

please note the drool bubbles… he has become a drooling machine in the last few weeks!

last weekend…

The husband and I had what will probably be our last weekend of just the two of us.  It was nice and low key….

Lazy morning with a sleepy kitty…

A very, very delicious breakfast at Madeleine’s downtown…

Lounging on the deck and catching up on some important reading…

Little dog enjoying the sunshine…

Giant onion rings at dinner…

Making sure those hospital bags are packed…

A very sweet Mother’s Day gift from husband…

And of course, watching this big belly grow…

Today is baby boy’s official due date… hopefully he will be making an appearance soon 🙂

it’s May!

And that means this little baby that I’ve been lugging around for 9 months could arrive any day now.  Woo-hoo!

The husband and I had a lovely weekend, including a stop at the wonderful Riverfront Park in downtown Spokane.  We’ve apparently had a record amount of rain so far this spring and the Spokane River is insane!  Here’s a little video I took of the river…

The water is rushing by so fast and the river is so high that people up on the bridge were getting splashed!  Crazy town.

And here’s an updated baby bump picture… 38 weeks… I wonder how much longer I have to go?!

behind the giant pregnant lady, look at the lovely tree that has bloomed in our front yard...

pay it forward

We’ve had four consecutive days of beautiful weather in Spokane!  It has been such a treat to enjoy a few days of sunshine and to drive around with the windows rolled down.  Finally, it’s starting to feel like spring.

Miss Kitty enjoying the sun

Already in a good mood from the sunny day, I had a very nice encounter at the Starbucks drive through.  The customer in front of me paid for my drink!  I recently read about this trend somewhere and it was such a lovely surprise to have it happen to me.  It’s just a small thing, but it definitely made me smile.  I was sure to keep it going and paid for the person behind me… hope it grants me some good karma.

In baby news, the nursery is coming along.  Crib is assembled, dresser/changer is assembled and some pictures are up on the wall…

That's a big belly!

My next project is to get those shelves organized.  I feel like I’m back at Anthropologie, merchandising product…  What is my color story?  How can I create a sense of balance? Etc.  I am such a nerd… Well, once I have it satisfactorily ‘merchandised’ (or ‘merched’ as we used to say at Anthro), I’ll post a picture.

Tonight is our last HypnoBirthing class and it also game one in the Blackhawks vs. Coyotes playoff series!  Husband is not very happy about missing the game… and secretly, neither am I!  I have totally become a creepy Hawks fan and am definitely looking forward to the playoffs.  Luckily, it’s only game one in the first round and of course we will be recording the game.  Let’s go Hawks!

34 Weeks

Just a quick post…

I had an appointment with my midwife today and everything is looking great.  I’m measuring right on track, baby is still head down… good news all around.  I go back in two weeks and then it’s every week until the end.  I’m in the home stretch!

In other news, it snowed today in Spokane.  And it hailed.  What?

Happy Spring! (Photo taken with Hipstamatic)

I thought the saying was, “April showers bring May flowers,” so what does April snow bring??
